Thomas Pöck (born December 2, 1981), a defenceman
for the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack,
was born in Klagenfurt, Austria. He was a star
forward turned defenceman at the American college
University of Massachusetts. Pöck was never drafted
in the NHL, but signed his first pro contract on
March 23, 2004 with the New York Rangers.
Pöck played eight games for the New York Rangers in
the 2005-06 NHL season, scoring one goal, getting
one assist, and accumulating four penalty minutes.
During the 2006-07 NHL season, Pöck played in 44
games for the Rangers, scored four goals, collected
four assists, and was assessed 16 penalty minutes.
He also played in four first-round playoff games,
amassing three assists.
After being a healthy scratch for a few games with
the Rangers in the 2007-08 season and then playing
in one game, Pöck was sent down to play with the
Wolf Pack due to the Rangers having seven other
healthy defencemen on the roster. He had to pass
through waivers first.
