Dwayne Lorenzo Bowe (born September 21, 1984 in
Miami, Florida) is a current football player for the
Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football at
Louisiana State University. Bowe's primary position
is wide receiver. He was selected as the 23rd pick,
3rd WR, in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Kansas City
Chiefs. Chiefs fans and teammates occasionally call
him "D. Bowe".
Born to an unmarried mother living in Overtown and a
largely absent father with an alleged drug problem,
Dwayne Bowe and his older brother Wayne were raised
by their grandparents (their father's parents), KW
and Dorothy Williams, since Dwayne was only months
old. Struggling with school, gangs, and fighting,
Bowe grew into a big and athletic teenager but was
not involved in many sports. It wasn't until his
junior year in high school that he had a
life-changing experience and began his football
career. Bowe was beaten badly during a nightclub
fight—his last fight—and spent the night in the
hospital. Bowe began his high school career by
returning a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, and by
the end of the year had an offer to play for LSU.
His coach, Nigel Dunn, said Bowe was one of the best
kick returners he ever had.
As revealed in episode 4 of Hard Knocks: Training
Camp With The Kansas City Chiefs, Bowe is a relative
of Bobby Sippio. Both play for the Kansas City
Chiefs.
