Jared Newson (born September 26 1984) in Belleville
IL., is an American Basketball Player currently
playing for the Cairns Taipans in the National
Basketball League (Australia).
Newson arrived in Australia from the NBA Development
League and was the final player cut from the Dallas
Mavericks' list for the 2007/08 season after
averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in seven
pre-season contests. Recently played in Germany for
Bayer Giants Leverkusen where local fans dubbed him
Jared 'Air' Newson after he won a dunk competition.
During his stint in Germany Newson averaged 13.3
points and 5.5 rebounds per game and helped the
Giants advance to the first round of the playoffs
where he averaged 16.8 points and seven rebounds per
game. At UT Martin Newson averaged 16.2 points and
6.4 rebounds per game and is among the school's top
10 all-time scorers and earned All-Ohio Valley
Conference first-team honors in 2006, his senior
season.
