Geoffrey Edward Blum (born April 26, 1973 in Redwood
City, California) is an infielder for the Houston
Astros. He began his professional career when he was
selected in the 7th round of the 1994 amateur draft
by the Montreal Expos. After playing there for three
years, he went to the Houston Astros when he was
traded to Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Brandon Backe. He
also played for San Diego Padres before the White
Sox picked him up in mid-2005. On October 25, 2005,
Blum hit a home run in the top of the 14th inning to
win Game 3 of the World Series, the longest game in
the history of the Fall Classic. He returned to the
Padres as a free agent in 2006. On November 20,
2007, Blum signed a $1.1 million, one-year contract
with the Astros.
